Intel’s new Core i9-12900K is a 12-core CPU with a base clock of 4.7GHz and boost up to 5Ghz. The chip will be the first mainstream consumer CPU to feature more than 10 cores, which is why it was built for gaming. It has an impressive single-core score of 3,878 points and a multi-threaded score of 8,106 points in Cinebench R15.

Fans of Intel are expecting that the company’s next flagship CPU would eclipse AMD’s current champion, the Ryzen 9 5950X. Fortunately for them, things seem to be moving in that direction.
New benchmarks for Intel’s 12th Gen Core i9-12900K “Alder Lake-S” CPU have surfaced on Geekbench, indicating that the company’s forthcoming flagship would not only outperform the red team’s Ryzen 9 5950X, but also by a significant margin.
In the test, Intel’s Core i9-12900K scored 1,893 on single-core and 17,299 on multi-core. In contrast, Geekbench’s typical scores for AMD’s Ryzen 9 5950X are approximately 1,691 and 16,723 respectively. The conclusion is that Intel’s Core i9-12900K will outperform AMD’s Zen 3 processor by approximately 11% in single-core performance and 4% in multi-core performance.
The Intel Core i9-12900K has 16 cores (8+8) and 24 threads (16+8), with eight Golden Cove cores and eight Gracemont cores. AMD’s Ryzen 9 5950X has the same number of cores as the previous generation, but more threads (32).

[…] This is still early performance, and the fact that the test isn’t even running on Windows 11, which is needed for the efficiency cores to function properly, suggests that final retail chips will have much better performance.
