Windows customers were pleased to learn yesterday that Microsoft will enable Windows 11 to be installed on older computers, even if they didn’t meet the company’s suggested (and rather contentious) hardware specifications.
Now there’s a new issue.
According to a recent story from The Verge, Microsoft is still planning to make life tough for Windows 11 customers who are trapped on outdated technology by delaying updates. This is clearly a major annoyance, but it’s even more concerning when one considers that these updates may include critical security fixes.
“We’re not sure why Microsoft didn’t mention it in our first briefing, but unsupported PCs won’t be eligible to get Windows Upgrades, and even security and driver updates may be withheld,” the publication said.
However, it’s unclear how serious Microsoft is about stopping Windows Updates from being installed on earlier Windows 11 computers. As The Verge points out, this would be an odd choice for a business that goes so far as to provide free updates for long-since-expired versions of Windows.

Yesterday, the firm informed us of a loophole that may appease some of the company’s outspoken power users who refuse to part with their old gear. However, if that flaw comes in the way of Microsoft’s goals, the firm says it has the right to make it much less appealing. The Verge is the source of this information.
