Square Enix just released a new patch for NieR: Automata on Steam, bringing it closer to its Xbox Game Pass version with new graphics options, HDR support, and more.
The NieR: Automata team is working hard on patching the PC version of NieR: Automata, and they have just rolled out the first one. The patch brings the game to version 1.05 and includes new “Details 4K+” graphics options, which allow players to choose between hardware-accelerated 4K, high resolution, and enhanced graphics, or a fixed frame rate of 30fps. The patch also adds HDR support for 4K monitors, and it fixes a few minor issues that were spotted during our PC review.

Microsoft’s version of Nier for Xbox Game Pass: Automata caused some controversy among Steam users when it was released, as it was much better than the version published on Valve’s favorite storefront. Steam version of Nier : Automata is now equal to Microsoft’s version thanks to a new patch released today. This patch adds a host of new features, options and bug fixes that greatly improve the game for Steam users. These include the addition of borderless video settings, support for HDR and AMD FidelityFX Adaptive Contrast Enhancement (CAS), anti-aliasing adjustments, 4K UI textures and global lighting. Kidney: Automata should also run better on Steam, thanks to the stability improvements brought by the new patch.

- Settings for video without borders
- Unlimited video settings have been implemented.
- Fidelity FX
- The CAS function of Fidelity FX has been added.
- HDR
- The system now detects if HDR mode is enabled in Windows display settings and, if so, automatically loads the game in HDR mode.
- Flattening
- Definition of the smoothing function
- User interface textures (4K)
- About 270 UI textures for icons, backgrounds, UI elements, etc. now support 4K resolution.
- Cut scenes
- The bitrate has been improved and all pre-rendered cutscenes have been corrected so that they now play in 60FPS and are displayed in the correct aspect ratio without stretching the image.
- Global illumination
- The new global illumination function has been implemented. Three different levels can be set: high, medium or low.
- Environmental/blossom occlusion
- The render targets for Ambient Occlusion and Bloom effects have been changed to a dynamic resolution based on the game resolution.
Error corrections
- You can now switch between the last selected capture modes, for example between full screen and window mode or between borderless mode and window mode by pressing Alt + Enter.
- The mouse pointer is no longer displayed when using a joystick.
- The frame rate is stabilized at 60 frames per second with the default settings.
- Other stability-related corrections have also been made.
NieR : Automata tells the story of the androids 2B, 9S and A2 and their struggle to return to a dystopia overrun by powerful machines. Mankind has been banished from Earth by mechanical beings from another world. In a final attempt to recapture the planet, the human resistance sends a group of androids to destroy the invaders. Now the war between the machines and the androids continues… A war that will soon reveal a long forgotten truth about the world.
