“Outriders” is a collection of seven miniatures games that use the same system, but require different strategies depending on the game you choose. Since they share a common system, you can play them together as a collection, or you can play them separately, each one having its own unique feel.
Do you like games that are hard to play, yet offer a satisfaction of victory? In this game, you have to get the most points by riding across the map. But, you must be careful, because there are some rocks, trees, and other obstacles along the way. So, be ready to face them. As you progress, you might find… you can’t make it any further!
Outriders is a great game that comes with a simple premise: you are a group of outriders, which is a kind of semi-civilian-soldier, riding horses to patrol the countryside and fight off the enemy. As a group, you have a limited number of horses, and each day the area you patrol will change. As the days go by, the enemy will change as well.
REVIEW – Outriders, a new video game from Polish team People Can Fly, is a shooter in which you play as a mutant with special abilities and must save what’s left of humanity on a distant planet. On the Xbox Series X and Google Stadia, we destroyed renegades, ferocious human gangs and bloodthirsty aliens like there was no tomorrow.
A video game from People Can Fly (Painkiller, Bulletstorm): Outriders may not be a revolution in the video game industry, and the story won’t win any Nebula Awards for best science fiction, but once you get used to the somewhat cheesy gameplay, you’ll easily be swept away by the fast-paced action and relatively well-designed role-playing elements, especially in the three-player co-op mode. If we had to cite previous games, we could cite games like Destiny, Gears of War or various parts of Mass Effect as inspiration.
Marauder Shooter: I shoot, I fly, so I.
Outriders is an RPG with classic shooter elements; a serious, but not entirely serious, dystopian sci-fi adventure with some very silly (but somewhat forgivable) plot elements and more or less funny jokes.
The term loot shooter pretty much covers the basic mechanics of the game: The core of the gameplay is hardcore action that comes down to the loot you get and put: Weapons, helmets, armor and other valuable or useless combat items. I used quotation marks, because of course learning the story, using the right tactics, getting familiar with the environment or defeating bosses are also important elements of the game, but the constant reward during the action remains the loot you can pick up after enemies – human or alien – have fallen.
It’s like a gambling addiction because you get it randomly. Obviously you don’t have to pay for it, so the analogy is wrong in this case.
Speed Shooter in the barn
To immediately delight the reader with another strange word: Outriders is also a cover-based shooter, where research, active engagement and tactical combat from cover make the difference between life and death for our hero.
In this respect, the Polish game is very similar to the Gears of War series – except that the gameplay is much faster and more intense than in the classic Microsoft series, and you don’t have to spend as much time hiding. I should also quickly add that Outriders is a little less polished than the legendary Gears of War series, whether it’s the design of the course, the proper use of an external camera to track your hero, or the less precise controls.
In this respect, the Polish game goes further than Gears of Wart, as the character you control is a super being with special abilities that you can use all the time thanks to his mutation. This isn’t exactly groundbreaking, as we’ve seen it before in numerous games with this look, including Control and (speaking of superpowers) Marvel’s Avengers.
Also worth mentioning is the role-playing game (RPG) system which is reasonable but not incredibly addictive, with three different skill trees and a variety of unique skills and spells to learn.
Last chance for the human race – what else?
The game takes place on the planet Enoch, where humanity moved to after screwing up on Earth. The plot is a bit confusing here and there, a bit clichéd here and there, but overall it seems that the Polish developers at least tried to bring some quality to the game – even if they didn’t succeed everywhere.
Given that it’s essentially a looting shooter, there’s a wonderful amount of tutorials and dialogue, and the world of Outriders is also well detailed, with various descriptions and documentation of found footage. Overall, it’s far from epic science fiction, but the story is fair.
An unrealistic vision?
The game uses the Unreal Engine, but it’s not exactly a game with which we want to show others what the next-gen graphics engine can do. The graphics, like the rest of the game, are solid but not stunningly beautiful. There’s no ray tracing in the game, and the somewhat clumsy use of HDR means that lighting leaves something to be desired here and there, as does the quality of the textures. The water development is also pretty bland, I’ve seen better in PS3/Xbox 360 games. Google Stadia’s graphics are slightly better than the Xbox series, but they sometimes stutter a bit, and even with 1GB network, the streaming image is sometimes a bit grainy.
Elsewhere, however, I have seen impressive images and amazing monsters. Overall, Gears of War 5’s ray traced graphics won’t make you want to miss out on the non-existent graphic orgy of a competing game.
More fun with multiplayer

At the start of your adventure, you have a choice of four skill classes (Devastator, Trickster, Pyromancer or Technomancer), which you can use to experiment or start from scratch in a game that can take around 30-40 hours to complete.
